Borðan – 183 viewsThe southern coast of Nólsoy contains two capes, each with a lighthouse (Øknastangi on the south-east, Borðan on the south). The lighthouse was built in 1893, the lens with its 2.82 meter in diameter and a weight of 4 tons, is the largest in Europe and one of the largest in the world. The tow longhouses beside the lighthouse were built by the British during World War II to act as a decoy and mislead the Germans. Unbelievably, three families with a total of ten children once lived at this outpost; there was even a school here which alternated classes with its equivalent in Nólsoy village.
