Gjógv – 1526 viewsGjogv is a charming little village located on the north-east tip of the island Eysturoy.
The place is popular because of its natural beauty.

‘Gjogv’ is the faroese word for ‘ravine’. The place is called so because of the natural harbour in a ravine next to the village.
The fishing-boats sail into the bottom of the ravine. From there they are dragged on a ramp from the bottom of the ravine up
and away from the surf.

Kaldbaksbotnur – 1105 viewsKaldbaksbotnur is located in the bottom of Kaldbaksfjørður on the east coast of Streymoy. The village consists of only one farm. Kaldbaksbotnur and Kaldbak were connected to the road network in 1980 when the road to Tórshavn opened. The tunnel from Kaldbaksbotnur to Signabøur is now the main thoroughfare from Torshavn to the villages up north. That tunnel was opened in 1992. In the mountains above Kaldbaksbotnur is a valley called ‘Mjørkadalur’ which means ‘Fog Valley’. The Danish Navy has a base there and, on the top of the high mountains, NATO has some huge radar domes.
