Koltur – 193 viewsKoltur is the name of the village on the island of Koltur.
The island is located to the west of the southern Streymoy.
No ferry goes to Koltur but the helicopter visits the island 3 times a week.

For many years only two families lived in Koltur. The two families did not communicate with each other for some reason. The story goes that in the end nobody knew the reason why they were not on speaking terms with each other. Not even the two families them selves.

In the year 1989/90 the island was abandoned and stayed uninhabited for some years.

In 1994 the Patursson-family of Kirkjubo moved to Koltur. Still there is only this couple living on the island.
They are farmers and have 160 sheep. Their plan is to have more tourists visit their island.

A Celtic bronze-ring needle was found also and this is seen as evidence that Faroe Islands had contact to the British Islands.
