A dam from Norddepil to Hvannasund on Vidoy connects the road systems on the two islands.

Norddepil was founded in 1866 by Sivar Sivertsen who opened a shop called ‘a Oyrini’ there.
In 1895 a school was opened in the village.
From 1897 to 1912 there was a whaling-station in Norddepil.

Viđareiđi – 234 viewsViđareiđi lies to the North on Viđoy.
It is actually the northern most village on the Faroe Islands. The village and the surrounding nature is beautiful. In late 17th century a storm ruined the church in Viđareiđi and parts of the cemetery washed away into the sea. Tradition says that several coffins drifted to the village of Hvannasund. Here they were saved, transported back to Viđareiđi and buried again.

Múla – 1120 viewsMuli is a tiny little village on the north-tip of Bordoy.
Muli had no electricity until 1970. It was the last village to be blessed with electricity.

Fugloy Island – 940 viewsKirkja is one of two villages on the island of Fugloy.
‘Kirkja’ means ‘church’ and ‘Fugloy’ means ‘bird-island’ in Faeroese.
The village is located on the south-tip of the island.
Fugloy is dominated by bird-cliffs on the west-, north- and east-side. On the south side the coast is lower and therefore more suitable for habitation.

Fámjin – 454 viewsFámjin lies beutifully surrounded by high mountains on the west cost of Suđuroy.
The church in Fámjin is from 1875. In the church there is a runic stone and the prototype of the Faeroese flag 'Merkid'. This flag was made by Jens Oliver Lisberg from Fámjin and others while they were studying in Copenhagen in 1919.
'Merkid' was not officially recognized in the beginning. However during World War II England prohibited the use of the Danish flag on faroese ships as Denmark was occupied by Germany. Therfore Merkid was run up on the ships instead. Not until the verification of the homerule act in 1948 was Merkid recognized as the official flag of The Faroe Islands.

Hestur – 100 viewsHestur is the only village on the island Hestur.
‘Hestur’ means ‘horse’ in Faroese.
The village is located on the eastside of the island and enjoys the view over Gamlaratt and Velbastađur on Streymoy.

Velbastađur – 206 viewsVelbastadur lies to the South on Streymoy’s west coast. It has a beautiful view towards the islands Koltur and Hestur.
Velbastadur is an old village. It was deserted for some time after 1349 when ‘The Black Death’ raged it.

Nólsoy – 313 viewsNólsoy is the beautiful island that dominates the view from Tórshavn.
Nólsoy is also the name of the only village on that island.
It takes 20 minutes to reach Nólsoy from Tórshavn by boat. From the little harbour one enters the village by passing through a portal that is made of the cheekbones of a huge sperm whale.
Soon one is in the middle of the village surrounded by the small and colourful wooden houses. The cosy small houses are placed extremely close to each other and one can imagine how they will shelter each other from the cold and salty winter storms.
